Purple Hills historical materials delivered to Simcoe County Archives

Simcoe County ArchivesToday, we delivered historical materials to Simcoe County Archives and into the capable hands of Matthew Fells, Archivist, and Jenn Huddleston, Archival Technician.

In honour of our 40th year, we have brought together and organized files, records, scrapbooks, photographs, and marketing materials generated by Purple Hills activities since 1977. We wanted everyone to have a chance to look through them so we asked curator Rosemary Donegan to help us mount an exhibit in the Station on the Green. There, we shared photographs, binders, posters and other memorabilia with members and friends, as part of the 2017 Creemore Festival of the Arts.

And today, we delivered those materials to safekeeping for future generations.

Everyone can now see these materials at the Simcoe County Archives. There is a public reading room for reviewing archival materials — calling ahead is recommended.

Of particular interest:
  • pictures of people and events
  • posters, tickets, newsletters, costumes, decorations, etc.
  • old records, files, notes, other documents

Special thanks are due to Basil Guinane, Julie Pollock, Barbara Mann and Rosemary Donegan.

We’re reeling with joy!

Jigs & Reels 2017
The Bar Crew

Thanks to everyone involved in making our spring fundraiser, Jigs & Reels, a success.

Thanks to your generosity, we raised almost $4,000 to support arts and heritage programming in the community.

A HUGE merci to Marie Stephenson for bringing the Mad Rivière touch to the evening. Thanks also to her crew: Lana Bryant, Karen Crevier, Joan Gordon, Kim Shadlock, Sandy Trott and the kitchen team. Thanks to Fred and Lana who managed to raise $400 from the crowd in support of our Artists in the School program. To those who set tables, tended bar and helped with the cleanup, we can’t thank you enough.

Thank you to our wonderful members, their family and friends.

And finally, we thank the band for their jigs and reels.

Until next year,

The Purple Hills Arts & Heritage Society Board
