The Great Canadian Story Exchange is a 30-minute interactive storytelling event that invites audiences to connect through the sharing of personal stories and set a new Canadian record.
Led by acclaimed storyteller and bestselling author Tracey Erin Smith, the event begins with a lively talk and mini-workshop on the history and power of storytelling, drawing on Tracey’s experience hearing thousands of people’s life stories and teaching them how to bring those stories vividly to life.
Audience members are then reflect on pivotal moments from their own lives, choose one, and make a few quick notes using simple storytelling tools based in presence and sensory details.
Participants then pair up and exchange their stories one-to-one in a guided, timed format.
The event concludes with music and celebration, making storytelling not only an art form, but a meaningful, joy-filled, media-friendly event that fosters connection and civic pride.
Creemore will be the first town in Canada to set the record. Before the event, each person receives a numbered wristband so the total of storytellers can be tracked, announced and recorded.
The challenge will then be for a new Canadian host town or city to break Creemores record…where it all started!
