Tea & History: Learning and Teaching in a One-Room Schoolhouse—Free Event! October 21st at 1:30pm at Station on the Green, Creemore

PHAHS is excited to bring back TEA AND HISTORY!

We have planned an event that will take us back to the days of education in one room schoolhouses.

Hear and see what it was like to be a teacher of 30-100 students enrolled in grades 1 thru 8, all in just one or two rooms. Our featured guest, Linda Hutsell-Manning, was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse located in Southern Ontario in the mid 1960s.

We also have some special guests who were students in local one room schoolhouses all located in the Purple Hills. Since many of those schoolhouses are still standing, we’ve created a driving tour that will guide you to the location of six local one room schoolhouses. Guide maps will provided at the event.

This is a FREE event so, arrive early to secure your seat at Station on The Green located in downtown Creemore.

Adapt and Evolve | Special art installation, demonstration and talk by renowned hybrid AI artist Steve McDonald at the Station on the Green.

Presented by Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society with the help of Royal LePage Location North, Brokerage.

The Exhibition will consist of Steve’s brand new ‘hybrid’ illustrations. Steve has been exploring and incorporating the new diffusion model and generative ai tools into his own illustration process. The work will be on display at the Station on The Green during the Festival Weekend.

The Presentation & Talk will include a multimedia presentation – An education, a history, and a discussion of the new processes and software available for image crafting. In a short time, Steve has become a leading voice in the adaptation of the new tools and has participated in many panels, talks, and interviews regarding the tools, the ethics, and the future of image crafting. The debate and discussion has many sides and could not be more topical (or contentious!). Whether you are an image crafter or not this should be an interesting event for many of you, as the ai image crafting tools will soon be crossing over into all walks of life – education, science, communication, etc.

The Workshop will offer participants the basics of how to use generative ai programs, how to design a custom diffusion model with your own work, and how to ethically use and adapt the new tools into your own practice.
