10×10 Creemore Community Art Show

We are excited to announce the 2025 10×10 Creemore Community Art Show!

We are looking for artists of all ages and talents to take part in our 10×10 Creemore Community Art Show!

Step 1: Visit the Creemore Echo to register and receive your 10″×10” birch panel. FEE $25

Step 2: Create your work of art in any medium – painting, drawing, printing, collage, photography…

Step 3: Return your finished artwork to the Echo before Sunday, May 25 at 3pm

Step 4: Attend the show at Creemore Springs Brewery to see your work on display.

Presented by Purple Hills Arts & Heritage Society and hosted by Creemore Springs Brewery with support from The Creemore Echo.
Your artwork will be hung in a curated group show in the “Model A Room” at The Creemore Springs Brewery in downtown Creemore. The show will be open to the public Saturday, May 31 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, June 1 from 11am-4pm.

We look forward to seeing what you create!

Request for Proposal

Artists in the School – Creemore Nottawasaga Public School

Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society is a not-for-profit organization that fosters community through cultivating and celebrating a broad range of arts and heritage activities in Creemore and the surrounding area.

  1. Opportunity:

Introduce and engage young minds through hands-on experience in the visual arts through interaction with, and instruction by, professional artists.

  • Where and when:
    • 3 x 110 minute lessons for approximately 30 students for each of grades 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 (i.e.15 lessons in the classroom or in the schoolyard).
    • One lesson for each grade each week for 3 weeks in second half of May/first week of June (dates to be confirmed with the successful proponent).
    • at Creemore & Nottawasaga Public School in Creemore, Ontario.
    • Part of core curriculum timetable for all students.
  • Our thoughts:
    • A single theme or skill that can be applied across the 3 lessons across the 5 grades.
    • Likely two artists working together.
    • Material costs must be submitted as part of the proposal and are not provided by the school.
    • Recent years have included print making in 2023 and sketching in 2024.
    • We welcome proposals for a wide variety of visual art forms and creative learning opportunities.
  • Funding Available:
    • The Board of Purple hills Arts & Heritage has agreed to make available $5,000 (+HST, if applicable) from membership fees/general sponsorship to cover this project (The $5000 to include preparation, instruction, travel and materials)
  • Criteria:
    • Creativity/Engagement of proposed curriculum (10 points)
    • Teaching experience (not necessarily in a school setting) with 9 to 13-year olds (10 points)
    • Link to the Creemore area community (5 points)
  • Requirements:
    • Anyone in the classroom will need a “Vulnerable Sector Check” issued no earlier than 15 June 2024.
    • If you have one issued before then, Purple Hills will work with you to get it updated before classroom sessions start.
  • Your proposal should include:
    • Bio including teaching experience
    • Your creative idea for the overall curriculum concept/theme
    • High level curriculum for the 3 classes
    • Confirmation of all-in cost, including materials
    • Confirmation of rough timing and any timing requests
    • References re teaching experience
    • Confirmation re vulnerable person’s sector check
  • Timetable:
    • Publication of Request for Proposal :24 March 2025
    • Proposals due: 7 April 2025
    • Winning proposal chosen and notified 14 April, 2025
    • Classes start week of 19 May (to be confirmed).

Chamber Music Series 2025

The last concert in our Chamber Music Series is fast approaching. This time we are presenting a Harp Quintet from the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, featuring a unique blend of instruments: harp, cello, flute, violin, and viola.

To celebrate the success of our series, we are offering a tea as part of our afternoon concert in the church hall.

Tea + History 2025

Clearview’s long farming history will be featured and honoured at our upcoming Tea and History event March 23rd at the Creemore Station on the Green. 

Hear stories and history from a number of prominent local farming families- the Milsaps, Flacks, Metherals, Millers, and Timmons families through a panel discussion moderated by agricultural journalist William (Jim) Algie and Willy Waterton. Topics about how farming has changed over the years, the history of how these families’ personal farms have changed and adapted, current challenges and opportunities,  and what they see for the future that will preserve their family farms. 

In addition to our panel discussion there will be a photo expose of people and memories.

A Wind Quintet

Purple Hills Arts & Heritage Society is pleased to present a series of afternoon Chamber Music Concerts featuring musicians of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

On Sunday March 9 2025 we present the second concert in the series, A Wind Quintet.

The final concert in the series will be April 6 2025 and all three concerts will be held at 2 PM at the St. John’s United Church, 192 Mill St. Creemore.

Tickets are $35 + fees per concert or $95 + fees for all three concerts. A tea will be served at the end of the series on April 6th.

A Festive Reading of a Christmas Carol

The Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society is pleased to present a reading of the seasonal classic A Christmas Carol.

Join us to hear Charles Dickens’ beloved tale of Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future brought to life by Dan Needles, Cathy Gildiner, Tim Armour, Laura Lachapelle, Simon Heath, Susan Kyle and musician Brendan Callery.

This is a great way to kick off the holiday season with family and friends from the community. Please note that this production is recommended for children 10 years of age or older.

This free event will be held at 7:00 pm on December 7, 2024 at St John’s United Church in Creemore. First come, first seated. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Food bank donations are encouraged and welcomed.

The Conscientious Effort of Jim Harkness

Harkness is best known for his wood carvings which have been loved for generations. During this exhibition we celebrate his work as well as his contribution to Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society and our community.

A View From Above: Painting the Svalbard Archipelago
