Request for Proposal

Artists in the School – Creemore Nottawasaga Public School

Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society is a not-for-profit organization that fosters community through cultivating and celebrating a broad range of arts and heritage activities in Creemore and the surrounding area.

  1. Opportunity:

Introduce and engage young minds through hands-on experience in the visual arts through interaction with, and instruction by, professional artists.

  • Where and when:
    • 3 x 110 minute lessons for approximately 30 students for each of grades 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 (i.e.15 lessons in the classroom or in the schoolyard).
    • One lesson for each grade each week for 3 weeks in second half of May/first week of June (dates to be confirmed with the successful proponent).
    • at Creemore & Nottawasaga Public School in Creemore, Ontario.
    • Part of core curriculum timetable for all students.
  • Our thoughts:
    • A single theme or skill that can be applied across the 3 lessons across the 5 grades.
    • Likely two artists working together.
    • Material costs must be submitted as part of the proposal and are not provided by the school.
    • Recent years have included print making in 2023 and sketching in 2024.
    • We welcome proposals for a wide variety of visual art forms and creative learning opportunities.
  • Funding Available:
    • The Board of Purple hills Arts & Heritage has agreed to make available $5,000 (+HST, if applicable) from membership fees/general sponsorship to cover this project (The $5000 to include preparation, instruction, travel and materials)
  • Criteria:
    • Creativity/Engagement of proposed curriculum (10 points)
    • Teaching experience (not necessarily in a school setting) with 9 to 13-year olds (10 points)
    • Link to the Creemore area community (5 points)
  • Requirements:
    • Anyone in the classroom will need a “Vulnerable Sector Check” issued no earlier than 15 June 2024.
    • If you have one issued before then, Purple Hills will work with you to get it updated before classroom sessions start.
  • Your proposal should include:
    • Bio including teaching experience
    • Your creative idea for the overall curriculum concept/theme
    • High level curriculum for the 3 classes
    • Confirmation of all-in cost, including materials
    • Confirmation of rough timing and any timing requests
    • References re teaching experience
    • Confirmation re vulnerable person’s sector check
  • Timetable:
    • Publication of Request for Proposal :24 March 2025
    • Proposals due: 7 April 2025
    • Winning proposal chosen and notified 14 April, 2025
    • Classes start week of 19 May (to be confirmed).
